PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today held a meeting with his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong to discuss measures to strengthen bilateral relations between the countries.
Bernama reported that Wong arrived in Malaysia for a two-day working visit yesterday, which was his maiden visit after being appointed as the prime minister of the republic on May 15.
Wong’s arrival with his wife Loo Tze Lui at the prime minister’s official residence at Kompleks Seri Perdana at 1pm was greeted by Anwar, before the two leaders held a four-point meeting.
Also present at the Seri Perdana Complex were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin.
Wong’s visit was at Anwar’s invitation. This visit emphasizes the joint commitment of Malaysia and Singapore in strengthening the long-standing relationship, and in preparation for the Annual Leaders Settlement session to be organized by Malaysia later this year.
In 2023, Malaysia and Singapore will each be the second largest trading partner globally as well as the largest among ASEAN countries with total trade worth RM363.13 billion (US$ 79.60 billion).
