Another PETRONAS Tanker Set to Arrive in Melaka Early August – PM

PORT DICKSON: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that another PETRONAS-owned tanker, which received approval to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, will arrive in Melaka in early August.

The Prime Minister said that he was informed of the matter yesterday by PETRONAS President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz.

Anwar described the vessel’s successful arrival in Malaysian waters as a testament to the wisdom of Malaysia’s foreign policy, particularly in maintaining good relations with Iran.

“Another PETRONAS vessel departed from Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, via the Red Sea, received approval, and will arrive in Melaka in early August.

“Alhamdulillah. This is why our foreign policy must be wise,” he said in his speech at the National Spirit Programme at the Army Basic Training Centre (PUSASDA) here today.

Also present were Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar; Chief of Defence Forces, Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman; Chief of Army, Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman; and Deputy Defence Minister, Adly Zahari.

The Prime Minister said Malaysia always maintains good relations with other countries, including the United States (US) and the Gulf nations, which enables negotiations to be conducted should any issues arise.

“When a PETRONAS vessel was blocked several months ago, when the war (between the US and Iran) began, our good relations made it easy for me to call the President of Iran (Masoud Pezeshkian).

“After expressing my sympathies, I requested that he release the PETRONAS vessel. One of the first vessels to be released through the Strait of Hormuz was the PETRONAS vessel which has now arrived in Pengerang,” he said.
