American B-52 bombers arrive in the Middle East
The US military said Saturday that B-52 bombers have arrived in the Middle East. This comes a day after Washington warned Iran about their presence by announcing their deployment.
An official social media post from the military command for the Middle East and nearby countries said, “B-52 Stratofortress strategic bombers from Minot Air Force Base’s 5th Bomb Wing arrived in the US Central Command area of responsibility.”
On Friday night, the US said it would be sending bombers, fighter and tanker planes, and ballistic missile defense ships to the Middle East.
“The United States will do everything necessary to protect our people,” Pentagon spokesman Major General Pat Ryder said in a statement about the deployment. “Should Iran, its partners, or its proxies use this opportunity to target American personnel or interests in the region?” he added.
Israel attacked Iran on October 26, focusing on military facilities and avoiding important nuclear and oil sites. Iran’s supreme leader has promised that the country will respond to the Israeli attacks.
Iran has launched two major attacks against Israel in the year 2024. The first attack occurred in April, following an Israeli-attributed attack on its consulate in Damascus. The second incident occurred in October, following the demise of leaders of armed groups Iran supports in the Middle East.
