Allocations from the government are not given specifically to Members of Parliament
KUALA LUMPUR: Allocations from the Federal Government to Members of Parliament are not given specifically to the people’s representatives involved.
Berita Harian reported that the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, said the allocation was for infrastructure and social development in the area.
“The allocation (Members of Parliament) of the opposition is actually the allocation of the Prime Minister (Federal Government).
“The allocation is actually for the Parliamentary constituency, it is not specific for the Member of Parliament. The role of the Member of Parliament is to coordinate the allocation,” he said after completing the 2024 Agricultural Census Launch Ceremony, at the Malaysian Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS), today .
Also present were the Secretary General of PETRA, Datuk Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy, Datuk Nor Azmie Diron.
In the meantime, Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said that if there is a special provision for opposition Members of Parliament, his side will still finalize the matter through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Last May, Fadillah was reported to have said that the draft MoU related to the distribution of allocations to opposition members of Parliament is being finalised, among other things, it will focus on efforts to develop and restore the national economy for the sake of the people’s well-being.
Once the draft is ready, he said, it will be submitted to the highest council of all government and opposition political parties for approval.
Last Monday, Machang Member of Parliament from Bersatu, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal claimed that the allocations they should have received as representatives of the people had been diverted to political parties that support the Unity Government.
In addition, he claimed that no audit was done by the recipient of the allocation as was done by the previous administration
