The security of the Sungai Bakap by-election polling day is guaranteed this Saturday
NIBONG TEBAL: A total of 835 officers and policemen were assigned to control security on the day of the Sungai Bakap By-Election (PRK), this Saturday.
Berita Harian reported that the Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said the police gave security assurances to all 39,000 state assembly voters to vote comfortably.
“On the 6th of July, voters do not need to feel worried, afraid and come out in large numbers because the security guarantee can be provided by the police.
“Do your duty by going out early in the morning to all polling stations that are open, especially in uncertain weather conditions.
“So we hope that first with the security guarantee given, followed by the (campaign) period with two days left, I believe the voting process will go well,” he said at a press conference at the Perpaduan Main Operations Room in Sungai Bakap, here, today .
Commenting further, Saifuddin said that in the campaign period of less than 48 hours left, as many as four police reports were made related to election offences, including acts of treachery over party flags and stealing campaign banners.
“Here we conclude that the entire campaign related to security issues is under control.
“From last June 22 to July 4, a total of 153 permits or licenses to organize programs were approved by the police regardless of Pakatan Harapan (PH) or Perikatan Nasional (PN) without a single application being rejected,” he said.
Saifuddin, who is also PKR Secretary General, said that based on the controlled campaign without a single permit being refused, it proved that the allegations made by PAS Deputy President, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who said the PN campaign in Sungai Bakap seemed to be rigged and spied upon, were baseless. .
“I completely reject such mischievous accusations based on the facts that I have presented which show that the situation is very calm and peaceful.
“All the permits for organizing the campaign were given in accordance with the law, unlike the impression given that they were spied on by an excessive number of police teams as if there was no justice in terms of the ongoing campaign.
“So, I dismissed all those (accusations) by understanding that the police is the biggest security enforcement force in our country,” he said.
