KUALA LUMPUR: The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, stated that affordable housing is one of the main agendas of the unity government.

According to the Wilayahku portal, she made this statement after attending the National Affordable Housing Council (MPMMN) meeting, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

According to Zaliha, the meeting serves as a “high-level council” to discuss housing issues among the federal government, state governments, and industry players.

“This is to ensure that the people, particularly those with low and moderate incomes, can own quality homes at affordable prices,” she said.

Meanwhile, Zaliha mentioned that several papers were presented at the meeting, including the current status of the construction of 500,000 units of Affordable Housing (RMM) and the rebranding of the People’s Housing Program (PPR) to the People’s Residency Program (PRR).

She stated that as of now, 443,259 units of RMM fall under the categories of Completed, Under Construction, and Planned.

“The Unity Government, through the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), has proposed several strategies and recommendations to achieve the government’s goal of providing 500,000 units of RMM by the end of the 12th Malaysia Plan.

“PPR will also be rebranded to the People’s Residency Program (PRR) based on a new development concept that includes improvements in specifications and livability features, integration, commercial quality, and sustainability,” she said.

Zaliha hopes that this collaboration will continue to thrive in ensuring the government’s efforts to provide affordable and high-quality housing proceed smoothly.

“This aims to address key issues involving the housing sector in Malaysia,” she said.
