Abdul Azeez, former CEO, and former chief financial officer of TH remanded for two days

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Chairman of the Pilgrims Fund Board (TH), Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, was remanded for two days at the Sessions Court here on Wednesday.

In the proceedings, besides Abdul Azeez, a man who is also a former Chief Executive Officer of TH and a woman who is also a former Chief Financial Officer of TH were also remanded.

Senior Assistant Registrar, Mohamad Afiq Zuber, issued the order after allowing the police’s application.

His lawyer, Datuk Abu Bakar Isa Ramat, said that Abdul Azeez, 60, was remanded until Thursday to assist in investigations related to a fraud case involving hibah (gifts/endowments).

“The police applied for the remand order under Section 420 of the Penal Code,” he said.

Abdul Azeez, who was wearing a purple police lock-up uniform, was also handcuffed when brought to court.

Media efforts to obtain pictures of the politician also failed when police brought the leader in through an internal route.

The media previously reported that Abdul Azeez would be charged under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

The former Baling Member of Parliament was previously remanded for seven days, starting from 27 August to 2 September, together with former Treasury Secretary-General, Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah, to assist investigations under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act.

The investigation follows disclosures in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report regarding Tabung Haji.
