PARIS, July 25 (Voice of Malaysia): Saudi Arabia’s National Physics Team proudly secured four medals at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) held in Paris from July 17 to 25, the Saudi Press Agency reported Friday. The event drew 425 of the world’s brightest young physicists from 85 countries.

Mazen Al-Shakhs clinched a silver medal, while Hussein Al-Saleh, Mohammed Al-Arfaj, and Ali Al-Hassan each earned bronze medals, showcasing the Kingdom’s rising talent in the field of science and innovation.

This year’s success brings Saudi Arabia’s all-time tally at the IPhO to 7 silver medals, 23 bronze medals, and 22 certificates of appreciation, marking another milestone in the Kingdom’s growing academic excellence on the global stage.

The students’ achievement is the result of rigorous training and preparation provided by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and with strong support from Saudi Aramco, the exclusive sponsor of the program.

“This victory reflects the Kingdom’s investment in nurturing talent and scientific excellence,” said a spokesperson from Mawhiba. “These students are a source of pride and a testament to what strategic educational partnerships can achieve.”

The International Physics Olympiad is one of the world’s most prestigious science competitions for high school students. Each participating country can send up to five students and two team leaders. Since its inception in 1967 in Warsaw, Poland, the IPhO has served as a global platform for young minds to demonstrate advanced problem-solving and theoretical skills in physics.

The competition rotates annually among member countries. Last year’s event was held in Isfahan, Iran, and next year’s host will be Bucaramanga, Colombia.

Over its 58-year history, the Olympiad has seen China dominate the medal standings, followed by Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, and the United States.

Saudi Arabia’s latest performance signals its growing presence in international academic arenas and its commitment to building a future driven by innovation, talent, and knowledge.
