KLANG, July 16— The family of 20-year-old Tavanes Vary Mohan, who tragically fell to her death from a condominium in Sentul earlier this month, has lodged a second police report, alleging foul play and urging authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
The report was filed on July 14 at the Sentul district police headquarters by Tavanes Vary’s mother, A. Laletha, 43, with the assistance of the family’s legal representative, prominent lawyer M. Manoharan.
“We have taken her full statement and prepared a detailed report based on her account of the events leading up to her daughter’s death,” said Manoharan in a press conference. “She believes there are several troubling elements that must be looked into.”
Tavanes Vary, who was pursuing a diploma in policing and criminal investigation, was residing in a seventh-floor apartment unit that served as a student hostel, rented by the college she was attending. Her body was discovered at the foot of the building in the early hours of July 2 by another resident, who alerted authorities.
According to Laletha, her daughter had been living in the master bedroom of the unit along with five other female students. She claimed Tavanes Vary was frequently bullied by her roommates and was allegedly summoned to a “meeting” with them on the night of the incident.
“The family is convinced that Tavanes Vary did not take her own life. There are too many unanswered questions, and they believe foul play may have been involved,” said Manoharan.
The family is calling on police to reopen and expand the investigation, taking into account the allegations of bullying and the possibility of third-party involvement.
Manoharan also revealed that his legal team has confirmed the unit was officially leased by the college, making the institution responsible for the students’ safety and welfare.
“We will be initiating civil proceedings against the college for failing in their duty of care. As the unit was under their supervision, they are accountable for what happened to Tavanes Vary,” he stated.
The case has drawn public attention, with calls growing for a transparent and comprehensive investigation to uncover the truth behind the young student’s death.
