MAKKAH – In a revered tradition symbolizing spiritual renewal and sanctity, Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Governor of Makkah, carried out the washing of the Holy Kaaba on Thursday, representing Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The annual ceremony, held inside Islam’s holiest site, was marked by solemnity and deep religious significance. Upon his arrival at the Grand Mosque, Prince Saud washed the interior walls of the Kaaba with Zamzam water mixed with rose water, using white cloths soaked in the sacred blend specially prepared by the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques.
The ceremony was attended by several senior officials, representatives of Islamic diplomatic missions accredited to the Kingdom, and members of the hereditary custodians of the Holy Kaaba, the Al-Shaibi family.
Following the ritual, Prince Saud also performed Tawaf, the act of circumambulating the Kaaba, which is a key component of Islamic worship and pilgrimage.
The washing of the Kaaba is a centuries-old tradition that reflects both the spiritual and symbolic importance of maintaining the sanctity of the most sacred site in Islam. It is typically conducted twice a year—before Ramadan and during the Islamic month of Muharram.
The event also underscores the Kingdom’s continued commitment to the service of the Two Holy Mosques and the preservation of Islamic heritage under the leadership of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
