Malaysia, US Reaffirm Strong Bilateral Ties at ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Voice of Malaysia): Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, held a high-level bilateral meeting with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio today on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings, currently taking place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The meeting, which underscored the growing strategic partnership between the two countries, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in key areas such as trade, regional security, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.

Both leaders expressed their mutual commitment to deepening the Malaysia-US relationship and working together to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development in the Indo-Pacific region. They also discussed regional and global challenges, reaffirming their shared support for an open, inclusive, and rules-based international order.

The discussions were held under the banner of Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship for 2025, themed “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”

The 58th AMM brings together foreign ministers and senior officials from across Southeast Asia and ASEAN dialogue partners for a series of meetings aimed at promoting regional cooperation, economic integration, and diplomatic engagement.

Today’s bilateral engagement between Malaysia and the United States is seen as a positive step toward advancing shared priorities and reinforcing ASEAN’s centrality in the evolving geopolitical landscape.
