KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 (Voice of Malaysia)— U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to visit Malaysia from July 8 to 12 as part of his first official trip to Asia since assuming office, the U.S. State Department announced.

During his stay in Kuala Lumpur, Secretary Rubio will participate in several high-level regional meetings, including the ASEAN-United States Post-Ministerial Conference, the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

The visit underscores Washington’s commitment to deepening ties with Southeast Asia and advancing a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific region, a key pillar of U.S. foreign policy.

In addition to the multilateral engagements, Secretary Rubio is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with senior Malaysian government officials to further strengthen the Comprehensive Partnership between the United States and Malaysia.

“This trip marks Secretary Rubio’s first to the region and reflects the Biden administration’s commitment to ASEAN centrality and regional cooperation,” a spokesperson from the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur said.

Throughout the visit, the Secretary will emphasize the tangible benefits of the U.S.-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for both the American people and the citizens of Southeast Asia. He is expected to highlight cooperation in areas such as economic resilience, maritime security, digital innovation, and sustainable development.

Malaysia, as a key U.S. partner in the region, plays a vital role in shaping regional dynamics and advancing shared goals of peace, stability, and prosperity.

Secretary Rubio’s presence at the ASEAN-related forums is anticipated to reaffirm U.S. leadership in the Indo-Pacific at a time of shifting geopolitical currents and growing calls for strengthened multilateralism.
