Satellite Data Reveals Iran Struck Israeli Military Bases in Recent Conflict

LONDON, July 5:  Satellite imagery analysis has revealed that Iranian missiles struck at least five Israeli military installations during last month’s 12-day conflict, according to a report published by The Telegraph.

The analysis, conducted by researchers at Oregon State University, used radar-based satellite data to detect blast damage consistent with missile strikes across multiple regions in Israeli-occupied territory, including the north, center, and south.

Targets reportedly included an intelligence-gathering center and a logistics base, marking significant blows to Israel’s military infrastructure. The Israeli military has not publicly acknowledged these strikes and continues to maintain silence due to strict military censorship laws, the newspaper said.

“Six Iranian missiles were confirmed to have hit military facilities, with satellite images showing physical impact zones consistent with missile blast signatures,” the report noted.

During the conflict, Israeli and U.S. officials claimed that 84% of Iranian projectiles were intercepted by advanced air defense systems. However, The Telegraph’s investigation suggests otherwise—noting that a growing number of Iranian missiles penetrated the Israeli missile shield, particularly during the first eight days of the war.

Strategy Behind the Strikes

Analysts attribute the Iranian success to several factors:

  • Depletion of Israeli interceptor missile stocks,
  • Upgraded Iranian targeting technology, and
  • A coordinated drone-missile assault strategy.

A senior Iranian official, quoted anonymously in the report, explained that the widespread use of suicide drones, even if intercepted, was meant to confuse and overload Israeli air defenses, clearing the path for missiles to strike effectively.

“The main goal of firing drones is to keep their systems busy. Many don’t get through—they’re intercepted—but they still cause confusion,” said the Iranian official.

Timeline of Escalation

The military exchange was sparked on June 13, when Israel launched a surprise attack on Iranian soil, killing senior military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians. Iran responded within 24 hours with True Promise III, a large-scale retaliation involving missiles and drones.

The United States formally entered the conflict on June 22, when U.S. bombers targeted three Iranian nuclear sites, a move widely condemned by international observers as a violation of international law.

In retaliation, Iran launched missile strikes on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest U.S. military facility in West Asia, framing the action as legitimate self-defense.

Faced with mounting pressure and internal disruption, Israel agreed to a unilateral ceasefire on June 24, effectively ending one of the most intense regional escalations in recent years.
