A senior Iranian official has confirmed to Reuters that Iran is willing to agree to a ceasefire with Israel, based on a U.S. proposal mediated by Qatar, according to a report by The Times of Israel.

The official, who is familiar with the ongoing discussions, said Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani communicated with Iranian officials via phone to relay and confirm Iran’s acceptance of the ceasefire proposal.

According to the source, the proposal came shortly after an attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar on Monday, June 23. Following the incident, the U.S. reportedly approached Qatar to help mediate, requesting that Doha persuade Iran to accept the ceasefire—provided Israel also agrees to the terms.

The Iranian official stated that if Israel commits to the ceasefire, Iran is prepared to do the same.
