The autogate services at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are for tourists from six ASEAN countries: Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Timor Leste. The upgrade will make leaving Malaysia easier.
In a statement released today, the Home Ministry (KDN) said that the facility opened on February 15 to get ready for the expected rise in foreign tourists during Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 and Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
KDN says the move is in line with the MADANI government’s goals to improve the public service delivery system so that it is more effective, quick, and based on respect for locals and visitors.
“This expansion also supports the spirit of inclusivity and regional cooperation, especially in strengthening diplomatic and tourism relations between Malaysia and ASEAN countries and Timor Leste,” as per the statement.
Before, 63 countries, including two ASEAN countries (Singapore and Brunei), could use the service.
The autogate system also allows individuals with passports from countries without chips to use it. This measure is intended to meet the security and technical requirements established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), ensuring that the system can accurately and safely verify identities.
