JIM raided residences inhabited by foreigners, 30 PATIs were arrested

KUANTAN – The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) in Pahang detained 30 illegal immigrants (PATI) as a result of raids on residential premises around the district on Friday until early Saturday morning.

JIM Pahang in a statement through his official Facebook informed that in the operation a total of 55 individuals were examined and 30 of them were arrested for various offenses under the Immigration Act 1959/63 including staying in the country beyond the time allowed.

According to the statement, the detained illegal immigrants aged 22 to 51 years old consisted of 10 Indonesians, Thailand (seven), Myanmar (two), Bangladesh (10) and Cambodia (one).

“The raid involving 18 officers was carried out as a result of public information.

“All detainees were remanded for 14 days under Section 51(5)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 at the Kemayan Immigration Depot, Bera for further investigation.

“JIM Pahang is tracking the owners of the houses inhabited by illegal immigrants to help with the investigation,” explained the statement.

He also asked the public to come forward and pass on information related to the existence of illegal immigrants in their respective localities.

“It is to help the authorities combat the issue of illegal immigration in the state.

“Strict legal action without compromise will be taken against PATI and any party that employs and provides protection to them,” he said.
