Over RM2mil lost in umrah fraud case, say police

Police have estimated that the total losses associated with an umrah fraud case involving a travel company in Sepang are approximately RM2.1 million.

According to Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the director of police in Selangor, his team has received eight reports regarding the case thus far.

According to Sinar Harian, they have apprehended eight people, including the husband and wife who own the company.

“The initial investigations revealed that there are 379 victims.” He stated on Thursday (Jan 16) that we strongly encourage any additional victims to file a report.

The Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) apprehended a couple who owned the Umrah travel company in Kuala Lumpur at approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15. We have previously reported this.

The corporation commenced operations in 2022 and relocated to a three-story building in Sepang in October 2024, according to preliminary investigations.

The operator recently postponed the flight of more than 300 Umrah pilgrims to the sacred land.
