KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in Vladivostok, Russia, to begin his two-day working visit.
According to the Wilayahku portal, he is confident that the working visit to Russia will bring significant benefits to Malaysia and strengthen the relations between the two countries.
“Alhamdulillah, I have safely arrived in Vladivostok, Russia.
“This visit will undoubtedly bring the best benefits to Malaysia, particularly in strengthening cooperation and relations between Malaysia and the Russian Federation,” he said on Facebook.
Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, will attend the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) taking place from September 3 to 6.
He is scheduled to deliver a speech at the plenary session on September 5.
The highlight of the visit will be a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which Anwar is expected to reiterate Malaysia’s intention to join the BRICS intergovernmental organization, given that Russia currently holds the BRICS Chairmanship.
On July 28, Anwar stated that Malaysia had submitted a request to Russia to join the BRICS intergovernmental organization following a courtesy visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
On June 18, Anwar confirmed Malaysia’s intention to join BRICS to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
