KUALA LUMPUR: Today, Wisma Putra issued a safety alert and travel advisory to locals residing in or visiting Kursk, Russia, following recent conflicts in the region.

According to Berita Harian, Wisma Putra advised Malaysians in Kursk to remain vigilant and adhere to all instructions issued by the Malaysian Embassy in Moscow.

“Malaysians in Kursk should always be cautious and follow all instructions and advice given by the Malaysian Embassy in Moscow.

“They should also obtain up-to-date information about the situation in the region from reliable and credible sources and comply with all local safety guidelines.

“Malaysians who have not registered with the Malaysian Embassy in Moscow are urged to do so to ensure they receive timely information and assistance,” the statement said.

International media reported that Moscow recently relocated tens of thousands of civilians from its border regions and launched an ‘anti-terrorism operation’ following Ukraine’s large-scale attack on Russia, which was the first of its kind.

Additionally, Russia has warned of battles in the western Kursk region, threatening nuclear power plants.

This follows Ukrainian military units breaching the Russian border last Tuesday, described as the largest and most successful attack by Kyiv in the ongoing conflict that has lasted for over two and a half years.

Meanwhile, Wisma Putra stated that it is committed to assisting Malaysians in the region and will provide updates as necessary.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Malaysian Embassy in Moscow, is closely monitoring developments in Kursk.

“The Ministry and the embassy are aware of the current situation and are actively coordinating with local authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of Malaysians residing in or visiting the area,” it said.

Those in need of additional support are advised to contact the Malaysian Embassy in Moscow at +74954199898 or 99 / +79067461333 (emergency).
