PUCHONG: Young people in Selangor are encouraged to participate in community activities to cultivate future leaders with strong capabilities.

This recommendation was made by Mohamad Nizam Marjugi, Executive Director of the National Sports Council, who praised the activities organized by Penggerak Belia Selangor (PeBS) for encouraging youth involvement in community affairs.

Last Saturday evening, PeBS Pulau Meranti organized a badminton tournament for youth at the Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Pulau Meranti, Puchong.

Nizam stated that such activities help strengthen relationships among youth and encourage them to engage with their community.

Also present at the event were Mohd Ezamen Alif, Chairman of PeBS Pulau Meranti Zone; Shaffee Md Yassin, Council Member of Pulau Meranti Zone; and Sunil Suin, Village Head of Pulau Meranti.

The tournament also featured Zamatul Amri Zakaria, known as Tauke Jambu, a former participant of Raja Lawak Season 1, who served as a ‘junior ambassador’ for PeBS Pulau Meranti.

For the record, Penggerak Belia Selangor (PeBS) was rebranded from Penggerak Belia Tempatan (PeBT) in 2020.

According to Nizam, the state government, through the Selangor State Sports Council, plans to implement programs based on the Selangor Youth Policy 2020.

“MSN allocates around RM5,000 to each PeBS zone to organize various programs, such as the badminton tournament conducted by PeBS Pulau Meranti under Alif’s leadership,” he said.

Nizam also commended Alif, who was newly appointed as the leader of PeBS Pulau Meranti in May, for his outstanding performance, particularly in promoting the activities to the media.

He mentioned that this helps to raise awareness among youth who may not be aware of PeBS and its role in connecting them with the local community.

Meanwhile, Alif indicated that they will continue to carry out activities favored by the youth, beyond sports.

“We aim to engage as many young people as possible with the surrounding community so that we can identify and nurture new talents as future leaders,” he said.
