Cooking oil worth over RM8 Million confiscated in Johor
JOHOR BARU: Authorities have seized over 1,600 metric tonnes of cooking oil, valued at more than RM8 million, from a packaging company in Kulai.
The operation, led by the Johor office of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), was conducted on Wednesday at 8:15 p.m., according to Johor KPDN Director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo.
Lilis Saslinda explained that the raid followed a review by Putrajaya KPDN enforcement officers, who audited the company’s cooking oil sales documentation. During the inspection, it was discovered that the company’s stock exceeded the allowable limit under its wholesale scheduled controlled goods license.
As a result, officers confiscated 1,635 metric tonnes of various cooking oil types and took business documents for further investigation. The total value of the seized cooking oil is estimated at RM8.4 million.
The case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961 and Regulation 9(1) of the Supply Control Regulations 1974. Offenders convicted under these regulations face fines up to RM1 million or imprisonment for up to three years for a first offense. Repeat offenders could be fined up to RM3 million, face five years in prison, or both.
For organizations or corporations, fines can reach up to RM2 million for a first offense and RM5 million for subsequent offenses.
