KUALA LUMPUR: The government has activated an evacuation plan to bring back Malaysian citizens from Dhaka, Bangladesh, including 124 students, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

Mohamad stated that the decision was made following the escalating riot situation in the country, according to Sinar Harian.

“The flight using an AirAsia Airbus A330 is expected to arrive at Dhaka International Airport at 10 a.m. tomorrow and is anticipated to depart shortly after the return flight procedures are completed,” he said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) stated yesterday that Malaysian students affected by the current situation in Bangladesh have been relocated to the High Commission building for their safety.

As of late Friday, out of the 95 Malaysian students in Bangladesh, two had recently left Dhaka with the assistance of the High Commission.

The Bangladeshi government has implemented a nationwide curfew in response to increased violence and demonstrations, which have disrupted internet services, mobile data networks, and public transportation.

The demonstrations, initiated by student groups, are protesting the quota employment system implemented by the government.
