Moderate Earthquake Strikes Sulawesi Sea, No Tsunami Threat To Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 magnitude was detected in the Sulawesi Sea at 10.23 am today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

MetMalaysia, in a statement today, informed that the earthquake’s epicentre was detected at coordinates 4.5 degrees North and 124.9 degrees East at a depth of 10 kilometres (km).

According to the statement, the location is approximately 199 km west of Talaud Island, Indonesia.

“Preliminary assessment found no tsunami threat to Malaysia,” according to MetMalaysia.
