The Coronation Ceremony of Sultan Ibrahim draws international media attention
KUALA LUMPUR: The coronation of Sultan Ibrahim as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the National Palace on Saturday was a grand and traditional ceremony that received extensive coverage from international media.
According to Bernama, in Singapore, the Malay-language platform Mediacorp Berita not only broadcast news produced by the Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) but also shared photo reports on its social media pages.
CNA produced a detailed video news report on the ceremony, which was attended by hundreds of guests, including Singapore’s Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife, Ho Ching. The coronation also received coverage from SPH Media, Berita Harian Singapore, and The Straits Times (ST).
China’s Xinhua News Agency highlighted the ceremony, noting the presence of Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
In its report, Xinhua quoted Sultan Ibrahim’s royal address, where he pledged to fulfill his responsibilities with honesty, sincerity, fairness, and compassion towards all citizens.
The British online newspaper The Independent covered the coronation, focusing on the background of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim.
The Independent explained the rotational practice of the nine Malay rulers since the country gained independence in 1957, where the position of Head of State rotates every five years.
The Associated Press (AP) provided an overview of the coronation with the title, “What to Know About Malaysia’s Coronation of Its King, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar,” focusing on the role of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Sultan Ibrahim’s background.
