Malaysia-Kuwait discuss procurement of F/A-18 Legacy Hornet aircraft

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is in talks with Kuwait to acquire F/A-18 Legacy Hornet aircraft belonging to the Kuwait Air Force (KAF) for use by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).

According to Bernama, the Minister of Defence, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, said the matter was discussed when receiving a courtesy visit from the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Malaysia, Rashed Mohammed Rashed Al-Saleh today.

“Among the matters discussed is the country’s desire to acquire F/A-18 Legacy Hornet fighter jets after KAF receives its new Super Hornet.

“The meeting also discussed military-to-military cooperation, defense industry cooperation and the conflict in Gaza,” he said in a post on his official Facebook page on Thursday.

Also present at the meeting was the Commander of the Air Force, General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan and the Deputy Secretary General (Policy) of the Ministry of Defence, Mohd Yani Daud.

In the meantime, he hoped that Malaysia-Kuwaiti bilateral relations and defense cooperation could continue to be improved to further benefit both countries.

“Defense cooperation between the two countries will continue to be strengthened through a memorandum of understanding that will be signed later,” he said.
