Teenage forced to spend days sleeping outside of flat, parents detained for neglect
JOHOR BAHRU: A 13-year-old child was saved after it was reported that he was abandoned to sleep for four days in a corridor outside his parents’ Pasir Gudang flat.
The teenage boy hasn’t been allowed into the flat since Sunday, July 7, according to Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak, who noted the teen looked neglected.
“On Wednesday, July 10, a group of police officers saved the boy, and they discovered no injuries on him.”Around 11.30 p.m. on the same day, his 54- and 56-year-old parents were taken into custody nearby.
He said that neither parent tested positive for drugs in a statement released on Thursday, July 11. “First inquiries revealed that the father has two previous offences on his criminal record,” the statement read.
In order to conduct an inquiry under Section 31(1)(a) of the kid Act 2001 for possible mistreatment, negligence, abandonment, or exposure of the kid to physical or emotional harm, the boy’s parents have been placed under a five-day remand until Monday, July 15.
If found guilty, the offence carries a maximum punishment of RM50,000, a potential jail sentence of 20 years, or both.
Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which addresses the distribution of content that is inaccurate, offensive, or threatening, will also be examined in this case, Supt. Mohd Sohaimi continued.
According to him, on Wednesday, images of the teenage guy dozing off in a corridor were shared extensively on social media by individuals of the Taman Air Biru community Facebook page.
