IPOH: Some of the additional allocations that the Unity Government has channeled specifically to improve the socio-economic status of the Indian community in this country are proof that the government has not neglected the group, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to Bernama, Anwar said that previously the government had channeled RM100 million to the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA) in addition to adding some funds such as assistance of RM50 million to the National Business Group Economic Fund (TEKUN) and the Malaysian Ikhtiar Trust for the Indian community.

“If the representatives of the Indian community talk to me, I will try to solve it. Look, some people say that MITRA (has a problem) is not correct, MITRA alone (we give) RM100 million.

“What kind of perseverance (for) Indian small traders… we added RM50 million, then Amanah Ikhtiar first for the poor villagers we all helped, now Amanah Ikhtiar we also added RM50 million for the Indian community, so it is not correct to say we don’t care,” he said when speaking at the Relaxation Program with the Indian Community of the Tambun Parliament here on Monday.

In addition, Anwar said, he and the leadership and society as a whole need to work together to save the country from corruption, as well as stop racist attitudes.

The Prime Minister said, the country is now entering a new era which is the digital era with artificial intelligence technology and the children have been given the best including the best teachers.

“That is my request, I will continue to repeat this without hesitation, I want to say that we will work hard, I don’t care what people want to say or suggest, one thing is important, we have to save this country from greedy leaders who have steal money from this country.

“We need to save this country from racial and religious fanatics among all races and religions…And as long as I am the Prime Minister, I will do my best to save this country,” he said.
