Anwar congratulated the new President of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Dr Masoud Pezeshkian on his victory in the Iranian Presidential Election.

Bernama reported, Anwar in a post on his Facebook page said that the victory reflected the democratic spirit of the Iranian people and a bright future for the country.

He said, armed with its rich and ancient civilization, Iran is in a unique and important position in world history, besides the potential of its relationship with Malaysia is huge and full of hope.

“We hope to strengthen bilateral mechanisms to deepen and expand cooperation between the two countries.

“We are committed to establishing cooperation on international platforms such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Group of Eight Developing Countries (D8),” he said.

The Prime Minister said, this strong dedication will enhance the common goals of both countries and foster closer cooperation in the Southern World.

Anwar also said that the MADANI Government called on Muslims to unite and stop the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza.

“We need to ensure that justice and humanity are restored in any way. I also welcome the arrival of Dr Pezeshkian to Malaysia,” he said.

Pezeshkian defeated his conservative rival Saeed Jalili, a former chief nuclear negotiator who is also head of the security agency, by a margin of 2.7 million votes.
