PN won big in Sungai Bakap

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Abidin Ismail unofficially defeated Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin in the Sungai Bakap State Assembly By-Election (PRK) today.

Berita Harian reported that the unofficial results showed that PAS Vice President Nibong Tebal won 14,554 votes leaving his challenger, Joohari who won 10,285 votes thus winning a majority of 4,269 votes.

The unofficial results were obtained through counting in all 66 ballot box channels as of 8.45 tonight.

Based on the unofficial results, PH only won one of the eight voting districts, namely Puteri Gunong, with 3,952 votes, with a narrow margin of 369 votes.

PN dominated seven voting districts by winning all nine voting channels in Sungai Duri with 3,101 or a majority of 2,056.

The Sungai Bakap by-election (PRK) saw a one-on-one competition between PH and PN (PAS).

PH staked former director of the Aminuddin Baki North Branch Institute, Dr Joohari Ariffin while PN was represented by former logistics executive, Abidin Ismail.

The Sungai Bakap by-election was held following the death of the incumbent, Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24.

In the PRN in August last year, Nor Zamri who is also PAS President Nibong Tebal defeated PH candidate Nurhidayah Che Ros with a majority of 1,563 votes.
