Najib Expected to Return Home Today
KUALA LUMPUR: The order for Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve his sentence under house arrest will be submitted to Kajang Prison immediately today.
The payment of a RM50 million fine fulfils a key condition stipulated in the conditional pardon granted by the Pardons Board, allowing the former Prime Minister to be transferred from Kajang Prison to house arrest at his residence in Langgak Duta.
His lawyer, Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, confirmed the matter after the High Court issued the order following the royal pardon.
“What I can confirm is that, as of this morning, the RM50 million fine imposed on Datuk Seri has been paid by UMNO to the High Court.
“Following the payment, the court issued a house arrest order in accordance with the royal pardon.
“We now have the order in our possession and will deliver it to Kajang Prison immediately,” he told reporters after completing matters related to the payment at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex here today.
Asked whether Najib would be released from prison to begin serving his sentence under house arrest today, Muhammad Farhan said he expected the transfer to take place today if all procedures proceeded smoothly.
“We expect it to happen today, but it depends on the procedures that need to be completed. If everything goes according to plan, then yes, today.
“However, several further procedures still need to be completed. A more detailed statement will be issued once the entire process has been finalised,” he said.
