Official: Azizulhasni Awang Climbs World Rankings!
MALAYSIA’S track cycling ace Datuk Azizulhasni Awang continues to achieve remarkable success after officially climbing to sixth place in the world rankings released by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
Previously, The Pocket Rocketman had expressed his ambition to break into at least the world’s top eight to secure qualification for the Los Angeles (LA) 2028 Olympic Games on merit.
The 38-year-old cyclist recently missed out on a major achievement after losing in the knockout stage of the sprint event and being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the keirin event at the 2026 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai, China.
This year has seen the Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist stage an extraordinary comeback, claiming three titles after coming out of retirement to continue representing Malaysia.
His impressive start, which saw him capture gold in the keirin event at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup series in Perth, Australia, followed by success on home soil at the UCI Track World Cup in Nilai, signalled that Azizulhasni had not given up on bringing glory to the nation.
Furthermore, his two victories at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games clearly demonstrated that he remains one of Malaysia’s strongest medal prospects.
