Dewan Rakyat: Delayed Projects, P. Ramlee Copyright Among Key Issues Today

7

KUALA LUMPUR: A proposal to tighten contractor selection criteria and performance assessments to curb delays in government projects and address troubled projects is among the key issues to be discussed at the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

According to the Order Paper published on Parliament’s official portal, Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi) will ask the Works Minister about proactive measures to address weaknesses in contractors’ management and financial capabilities, as well as new mechanisms to be introduced.

Also drawing attention during the oral question-and-answer session is a question from Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) to the Women, Family and Community Development Minister on the latest developments concerning the proposed Parental Care Bill.

She will also seek clarification on the form and mechanisms of comprehensive social protection expected to be announced to safeguard the welfare of senior citizens as Malaysia’s demographics shift towards an ageing nation.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH-Port Dickson) will ask the Education Minister to detail the ministry’s preparedness to accommodate the simultaneous enrolment of six- and seven-year-old children into Year One for the 2027 school session.

The preservation of Malaysia’s artistic heritage will also be raised by Onn Abu Bakar (PH-Batu Pahat), who will ask the Communications Minister for an update on government initiatives to acquire or repurchase the ownership rights, copyrights and management rights to films by legendary Malaysian artist Tan Sri P. Ramlee so they can be preserved as national heritage assets.

Following the oral question-and-answer session, proceedings will continue with the tabling of a motion by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department concerning the Auditor-General’s Report (LKAN) 2/2026, which was tabled last Monday.

The motion, among other things, calls on all relevant ministries, departments and agencies to objectively examine the findings and recommendations in the audit report to strengthen governance integrity and the management of public funds.

Today’s sitting is also scheduled to continue with the second reading of the Food (Amendment) Bill 2026 by the Health Minister.

The Third Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament’s Dewan Rakyat, which began last Monday, is scheduled to sit for 37 days until Dec 8.
