KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has been urged to provide an immediate explanation regarding the death of a female student at a school in Batu Pahat, Johor, yesterday afternoon.

Putrajaya MP and former Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said the absence of an official statement from the ministry as of Sunday morning had raised questions among the public.

He said transparency and a comprehensive explanation from the MOE were crucial, particularly as the incident occurred just eight days after another case involving the death of a school student in Negeri Sembilan.

“According to media reports, the victim was found in a weak condition at a school in Batu Pahat yesterday afternoon before she died.

“As of 10.40am today, I have yet to find any official statement from the Ministry of Education regarding the incident.

“It would be appropriate for the Ministry of Education to provide an immediate explanation to the public, especially as this incident occurred just eight days after the death of a school student in Negeri Sembilan,” he said in a statement today.

Following investigations into the tragedy, police arrested three male students to assist in the investigation into the death of the Form Four female student.

It is understood that one of the male students arrested was brought to court this morning for a remand order to allow further investigations to be carried out under the relevant legal provisions.

Earlier, the media reported that the victim was found by her family in a weak condition inside the school hall before she died.

The Johor contingent of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) had earlier said that a comprehensive investigation was underway and urged all parties not to engage in speculation while the investigation is being completed.
