Corruption, Plundering of National Assets More Urgent Than Anthony Loke’s Resignation – PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has criticised the tendency of many people to show greater interest in the resignation of Transport Minister Anthony Loke than in issues of corruption and the plundering of national assets.

The Prime Minister said corruption and the plundering of the country’s assets were more pressing issues facing the nation, rather than Loke’s resignation.

“This issue involving Anthony Loke… what is the problem? He only submitted the letter (of resignation) yesterday, and what is the problem with Anthony Loke?

“The real problem is corruption… the act of robbing and plundering the country’s assets. That is not being raised, yet people keep demanding that he resign.

“Why? Are those who plundered the country’s assets also being asked to resign?” he told the media after officiating the Professional Conference and Exhibition (Profex 2026) at the KLGCC Convention Centre here today.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister defended Loke’s performance in the Cabinet, saying he did not see any wrongdoing in the minister’s discharge of his duties.

He said he would discuss the matter of the resignation further with Loke.

Yesterday, Loke submitted his resignation letter as a Cabinet member to Anwar.

However, the DAP Secretary-General stressed that he would continue carrying out his duties for the time being until former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak returns home to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

He said his resignation would only take effect on the day Najib is released from Kajang Prison.

“Once Najib is released and returns home, that will be the day my resignation takes effect,” he said.
