Woman Found Dead, Believed Killed by Husband

TAWAU: A woman was found dead in what is believed to be a case of murder involving her husband at a plantation workers’ quarters in Felda Umas, Jalan Kalabakan, on Monday afternoon.

Tawau District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the incident occurred at about 4.55pm and involved a 37-year-old Indonesian woman who worked at the plantation.

“The victim was found unconscious at the house and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer at about 8.16pm,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said police subsequently arrested a 38-year-old Indonesian man, who is the victim’s husband.

“The suspect also sustained injuries to his neck and is currently receiving treatment at Tawau Hospital.

“Investigations at the scene found injuries to the victim’s head, neck and hands,” he said.

Rosdi said an examination of the scene also led to the seizure of several items, including a sickle and a piece of wood, to assist in the investigation.

“Further investigations found that the incident is believed to have stemmed from marital problems after the couple returned from a holiday.

“However, the actual cause of the incident is still under investigation,” he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“Police are continuing a comprehensive investigation, including forensic examinations, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) analysis, medical reports and a post-mortem examination.

“Any preliminary admission by the suspect remains subject to verification through other evidence obtained during the investigation,” he said.

Rosdi urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
