PH to Contest Melaka State Election on Its Own?

MELAKA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has indicated that it may contest the Melaka State Election on its own after the coalition finalised the allocation of seats among PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) at the state leadership level.

Melaka PH Chairman Adly Zahari said, however, that the final decision on the coalition’s overall arrangement would be made at a PH Presidential Council meeting expected to be held next week.

“Our decision in Pakatan Harapan is that we have appointed Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to coordinate PH’s seat allocations.

“At the Melaka PH level, we have completed the seat allocation, and all these discussions will be brought to the PH Presidential Council for finalisation,” he told reporters after the PH *Ceramah Perdana* in Bukit Baru here yesterday.

Commenting on the seat allocation, Adly, who is also Amanah Vice-President, said the quotas among PH component parties remained as agreed at the state level, pending official confirmation by the PH Presidential Council next week.

He said that under the preliminary agreement, Amanah had been allocated eight seats.

“For now, the seats within PH remain according to the allocation among the component parties. Amanah has been allocated eight seats within the PH framework,” he said.

Adly, who will defend the Bukit Katil state seat, said four of the seats had been finalised for Amanah to contest — Bukit Katil, Durian Tunggal, Telok Mas and Merlimau.

“The remaining four seats — Pantai Kundor, Kuala Linggi, Sungai Rambai and Taboh Naning — have yet to be finalised and are subject to PH Plus negotiations and a decision by the Presidential Council next week,” he said.

Previously, Adly said Melaka PH had concluded seat allocation negotiations involving PKR, Amanah and DAP, while any decision on broader political cooperation would be determined by the coalition’s central leadership.
