Bullying Not Limited to Schools, 15 of 56 Cases Occurred Outside Institutional Supervision – TAB

SHAH ALAM: Bullying is not limited to school premises, but also occurs outside the supervision of educational institutions, according to the Anti-Bullying Tribunal (TAB).

Its president, Nurul Husna Awang, said 15 of the 56 bullying cases reported to TAB since the special body was established on June 16 occurred outside the supervision of educational institutions.

She said the remaining 41 cases occurred under the supervision of educational institutions, with daily secondary schools recording the highest number at 19 cases.

Private schools recorded nine cases, followed by daily primary schools with eight, fully residential schools with four and vocational colleges with one.

“No bullying cases were recorded at MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) or the Royal Military College during the period.

“No cases were also recorded involving institutions under the Second Schedule of the Anti-Bullying Act 2026 [Act 876],” she said, as reported by BH Online.

TAB was established under the Anti-Bullying Act 2026 (Act 876) to hear, adjudicate and decide cases and complaints related to bullying in a quick, accessible and cost-free manner.

On the categories of victims, Nurul Husna said 35 were secondary school students, comprising 27 victims from daily secondary schools, four from private schools, one from a vocational college and three from other categories.

“There were 18 bullying victims at the primary school level, comprising 10 from daily primary schools, five from private schools and three from other categories.

“At the kindergarten level, there was one victim from a government kindergarten and two from private kindergartens,” she said.

In terms of state distribution, Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest number of registered bullying complaints with 15 cases, followed by Selangor and Johor with seven cases each.

Sabah recorded six cases and Negeri Sembilan five, while Perak, Pahang, Melaka and Penang recorded three cases each.

Kedah recorded two cases, while Perlis and Terengganu recorded one case each.

“TAB recorded no complaints in Kelantan, Putrajaya, Sarawak and Labuan,” she said.
