Car Washer Remanded Five Days for Ramming Traffic Policeman

IPOH: A car washer has been remanded for five days beginning today to assist investigations into a case involving a traffic policeman who was rammed by a car attempting to flee during a roadblock inspection at Jalan Silibin last Thursday.

The remand order against the 29-year-old man was issued by Magistrate Lau Eric at the Magistrate’s Court here after granting a police application to investigate the case under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, Ipoh District Police Chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah said Lance Corporal Muhammad Badrul Izwany Pauzi, 29, who sustained serious injuries after being rammed, is currently being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh.

He said the policeman suffered fractures to his left arm and right leg and underwent surgery at the hospital yesterday.

“The policeman is currently sedated after undergoing a seven-hour operation that lasted until 6am today,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

In the incident at about 9.45am on Thursday, the traffic policeman was rammed by a car that attempted to flee during a roadblock inspection at Jalan Silibin.

Further investigations found that the suspect did not have a driving licence and that the vehicle’s road tax had expired. A preliminary urine screening also tested positive for methamphetamine.
