MCMC to Help MOH Deliver Medicines by Post Free of Charge to Patients From Oct 1 – Fahmi

PADANG BESAR: The Communications Ministry, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), will assist the Ministry of Health (MOH) in delivering medicines by post free of charge to patients who apply for the service beginning Oct 1.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the initiative would be implemented nationwide with an allocation of about RM5 million.

“Previously, patients had to pay for the delivery of medicines by post, but beginning Oct 1, those using the service will no longer have to pay as the cost will be fully borne by the government through MCMC,” he said.

He said this to reporters after inspecting the National Digital Health Ecosystem and Connectivity Initiative (PERSADA) project at the Padang Besar Health Clinic here today.

Also present were Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah and Perlis Health Director Dr Ghazali Chik.

In June, Fahmi was reported as saying that the government would fully cover the cost of medicine deliveries for about 80,000 patients a month through the Medicines by Post Programme (UMP), a collaboration between MCMC and MOH.
