All Iranian Airlines to Halt Operations Worldwide From Sept 23 – US
ISTANBUL: All Iranian commercial airlines will cease operations worldwide beginning Wednesday, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Monday, according to Anadolu Agency (AA).
“On Sept 23, all Iranian airlines will cease operations worldwide,” Bessent told US television network CNBC while explaining sweeping secondary sanctions aimed at isolating Tehran’s civil aviation network.
Bessent said international hubs providing services to Iranian aircraft would face full exclusion from the US banking system.
He warned that foreign operators would not be able to refuel aircraft, provide landing facilities or sell passenger tickets without risking losing access to US dollar transactions.
Iranian officials did not immediately issue a public statement regarding the planned aviation restrictions.
The restrictions on the aviation sector come as Washington intensifies economic measures against Tehran under Operation Economic Fury, following the Iran war, which has now entered its seventh month.
The war began in late February following coordinated attacks by the US and Israel, which triggered maritime disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, ongoing regional missile exchanges and mounting pressure on Iran’s commercial and financial channels.
