Man Arrested for Allegedly Throwing Five-Year-Old Girl Into River
SHAH ALAM: A 37-year-old local man was arrested after allegedly throwing a five-year-old girl into a river, causing her death, in Kampung Padang, Tanjung Sedili, Kota Tinggi, today.
Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said the suspect was arrested after police received a report about the incident at around 9.30am.
He said that before his arrest, the suspect was believed to have thrown the victim into the river before running amok while armed with a machete.
The suspect then allegedly chased a 40-year-old man during the incident.
“Acting on information received, a police team from the Kuala Sedili Police Station went to the scene and arrested the suspect.
“A struggle broke out during the arrest, resulting in a police officer being injured, but the suspect was successfully detained,” he said in a statement today, as reported by Berita Harian.
Yusof said a medical assistant who arrived at the scene later confirmed the child’s death.
“The victim’s body was sent to Kota Tinggi Hospital before being taken to the Forensic Department at Pasir Gudang Hospital tomorrow for a post-mortem examination,” he said.
He said the motive for the incident is still under investigation, adding that the suspect is also believed to have mental health problems.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
