KUALA LUMPUR: A woman endured a harrowing ordeal after she was allegedly beaten and slashed with a sharp weapon by her husband in an incident last month.

Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said police received a report from a doctor at Ampang Hospital at 2.19 pm on Aug 29.

He said the report was lodged after the hospital admitted and treated the victim, a woman in her 40s, who was believed to have been beaten and slashed with a sharp weapon by the suspect, who is also her husband.

“The victim and the suspect were married under a customary marriage that was not officially registered.

“The injured victim was admitted to the orthopaedic ward before lodging a police report herself after she was discharged from the hospital on Sept 4,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Acting on information received, a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division (D7) of the Cheras District Police Headquarters (IPD) conducted an operation at the compound of the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters at about 4.10 pm on Sept 8.

The operation led to the arrest of an unemployed local man in his 30s.

“Further checks revealed that the suspect had 27 previous records involving 15 criminal cases and 12 cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act.

“An initial urine screening also tested positive for drugs,” he said.

Sazalee said the suspect was remanded for six days until Sept 14 to assist in investigations before being released on police bail on the same day.

“The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code,” he said.
