Fahmi Presents Malaysia Day Celebration Invitation to Wan Junaidi

KUCHING: Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil today paid a courtesy call on Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar to present an official invitation to the 2026 Malaysia Day celebration, which will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) tomorrow night.

He said the visit was aimed at providing an update on the final preparations for the main celebration, which is expected to begin at 8.15 pm and end at about 10.30 pm.

“Alhamdulillah, the courtesy call went very well. Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and I presented the official invitation to Tun for tomorrow’s celebration.

“We were informed that all preparations are progressing well. There are several technical aspects that will be fine-tuned and, insya-Allah, the event will run smoothly,” he told reporters after the courtesy call at the Astana Negeri Sarawak today.

During the hour-long meeting, Fahmi said Wan Junaidi also shared his extensive experience, particularly during his service with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

Fahmi also provided an update on the publication of a special book on Wan Junaidi by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), as well as several other programmes, including a thanksgiving ceremony at the State Jamek Mosque and a Malaysia Day exhibition organised by the Information Department.

Also present during the courtesy call were Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Minister-in-Charge of the 2026 Malaysia Day Celebration Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, as well as Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah.

About 5,000 people are expected to attend the Malaysia Day celebration at BCCK, which will also be attended by Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg are also scheduled to attend the event, which begins at 8.15 pm.
