KOTA TINGGI: An elderly man suspected of chopping his wife’s right arm with a parang (machete) at Taman Desa Sejahtera here has been remanded for four days until 9 September to assist in investigations.

The remand order against the suspect, who is in his 70s, is to enable further investigations to be carried out under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which is voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon.

Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Superintendent Yusof Othman had earlier informed that the incident occurred at 9.30 pm last Saturday and is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding when the victim, also in her 70s, allegedly turned the television volume too loud.

The suspect, believed to be intoxicated, then attacked the victim using a parang.

Yusof said the victim suffered a small wound of approximately one centimetre on her right arm and received treatment at Kota Tinggi Hospital, where she is reported to be in stable condition.
