Three High‑Profile Cases, Two Public Interest Appeals in the Spotlight

KUALA LUMPUR: Three high‑profile cases and two public interest appeals are among the proceedings that will take centre stage in court this week.

Among them are the oral submissions in the case of a juvenile student charged with murdering a teenage girl, case management of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor’s corruption trial, and the trial of Pantai Jerejak State Assemblyman Fahmi Zainol, who is charged with injuring his wife.

Two public interest appeals concerning a constitutional crisis in Negeri Sembilan are scheduled to be heard at the Court of Appeal today, including an application for a stay of proceedings to obtain leave to commence committal proceedings against the appellants concerned.

The application, filed via a Motion of Contents 3, has been fixed for hearing before Court of Appeal 1.

The appeals involve six Negeri Sembilan state dignitaries against the Seremban High Court’s decision granting the Secretary of the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) leave to commence committal proceedings against them.

The appeals relate to alleged violations of an interim injunction issued by the Seremban High Court on 5 June regarding DKU matters.

Oral submissions in student murder case

Next, oral submissions in the case of a male student charged with murdering a 16‑year‑old girl at a secondary school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya last year will be heard at the Shah Alam High Court tomorrow.

Judge Adlin Abdul Majid set the date after the defence informed the court that it had closed its case, following the conclusion of the evidence of the second defence witness, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist from Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Dr Ian Lloyd Anthony, who had testified during examination‑in‑chief, cross‑examination and re‑examination.

This was informed by lawyer Kitson Foong, who represents the 15‑year‑old juvenile accused, after proceedings on 28 August.

According to the charge, the male juvenile, who was 14 at the time of the incident, is accused of murdering the victim in a girls’ toilet at a school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya between 9.20 am and 9.35 am on 14 October 2025.

Rosmah’s hybrid solar case

Also on the list is the case management of Rosmah’s corruption trial concerning the Sarawak school hybrid solar project, scheduled at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on 10 September.

The hearing for new evidence was directed by a different High Court judge and must be conducted within two weeks after case management.

On 1 September, the Court of Appeal allowed the application by the wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to adduce fresh evidence in her appeal against her conviction and sentence in the RM1.25 billion hybrid solar project corruption case.

Also this Thursday, the Balik Pulau Magistrates’ Court will continue the trial of Fahmi, who is charged with voluntarily causing hurt to his wife, after the prosecution was given room to obtain further instructions from the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).

Magistrate Chia Huey Ting allowed the prosecution’s application after the complainant in the case, who is also the accused’s wife, Nur Hidayah Abd Jabar, 35, as the first prosecution witness, testified that she had withdrawn her original police report and did not wish for the case to proceed.
