Don’t politicize the briefing program, citizenship information, said the minister
KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail urged all parties not to politicize any citizenship-related briefing and information program organized at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) service centre.
According to Bernama, he said that many state assembly service centers, whether represented by representatives of the government or the opposition, receive requests from the people related to citizenship applications, including children out of wedlock, adopted children, children born abroad, or parents married abroad.
“Let’s not confuse this with accusing an organized movement to give the citizens wholesale,” he said at a press conference after the ceremony at the Police Training Center (Pulapol).
He commented on the citizenship briefing and information ceremony organized by the Stulang State Assembly Service Center held on June 30, which was postponed after causing controversy and public criticism.
Saifuddin asked all parties to give space to the people’s representatives to carry out their duties.
“This morning, I received a message from a Member of Parliament in Kelantan who received many complaints about citizenship problems.
“This is because the area is close to Thailand, there are many marriages with local people. So when the elected representatives organize a program like this, it needs to be seen through clear glasses,” he said.
