MECCA: The Ministry of Transport and Logistics of Saudi Arabia implemented 32 experiments this year as part of efforts to provide efficient and effective services to pilgrims.

According to Bernama, its minister, Saleh Al-Jasser, said 17 of the experiments were operating for the first time while the rest were developed from previous experiments.

“One of the successful experiments for the first time is the flying taxi. We also have a drone service to check the roads, we have rubber roads, we have white painted roads to reduce the temperature and we have an electronic monitoring system for buses so that buses don’t arbitrarily hit traffic law.

“Observers (who monitor the system) can detect buses (that break the law), drivers and bus licenses,” he said when receiving a visit from an international media group from 10 agencies at the ministry’s office today.

Commenting on the invention and experiment of the flying taxi, Saleh said the facility can accommodate two passengers at a time.

He said the license to fly the aircraft was the first issued by the Civil Aviation Authority.

“We welcome all technologies, meaning we get developments from the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Saudi Arabia regarding the available aircraft models, so we try and choose what suits the operational task,” he said.

Saleh also said that there are many new ideas that are being evaluated to be realized in order to provide pilgrims with a better service.
