Nepal Issues New Flood Warning Following Rising Water Levels In Bhote Koshi River

KATHMANDU: Nepalese authorities issued a new warning on Friday regarding the potential for another flood incident after water mixed with debris and mud was reported to be rising in the same stretch of the Bhote Koshi River, the location where the flash flood disaster struck on Wednesday, reported Xinhua.

“Information has been received that water mixed with debris and mud has risen again today in the Bhote Koshi River area in Rasuwa, the place where the major flood occurred on August 26,” according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) in a notice.

Given the potential for another flood to occur, the NDRRMA urged all personnel involved in rescue and relief operations along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers, as well as anyone still in high-risk areas, to take full precautionary measures.

The agency also advised them to immediately move to safer areas if they detect any signs of danger.

The death toll from the devastating flood has risen to 475, while hundreds more are still reported missing as rescue teams continue searching for survivors and recovering bodies along the rivers and downstream areas.
