F1 Gulf Air Bahrain GP Race in Malaysia Set to Bring Major Economic Spillover – PM

KUALA LUMPUR: The organisation of the Formula 1 (F1) Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix race in Malaysia at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this October is set to bring major economic spillover through increased tourism, job opportunities and business activities.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said the world‑class event is also believed to be able to strengthen investor confidence, thereby enlivening Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2026.

He said that matter was among those examined through a meeting with GP Singapore Executive Director, Michael Roche, to obtain Singapore’s experience and best practices in ensuring the organisation of the race goes excellently.

“God willing, we are committed to ensuring that this event not only meets international standards, but also strengthens Malaysia’s position as a regional motorsports hub and brings widespread benefits to the people and the country’s economy,” he said in a Facebook post last night.

Anwar said that the experience and best practices from countries that have successfully hosted F1 events will serve as a reference to ensure that the hosting at SIC meets the set standards.
