Happy 101st Birthday To Tun M
SHAH ALAM: Former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad celebrates his 101st birthday today.
He was born on July 10, 1925 in Kampung Seberang Perak, Alor Setar, Kedah.
His wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, will celebrate her 100th birthday on July 12.
Now in their 70th year of marriage, the couple has seven children, namely Marina, Mirzan, Melinda, Mokhzani, Mukhriz, Maizura and Mazhar.
Mahathir served as the fourth Prime Minister on July 16, 1981, holding the position for the longest period of 22 years.
Among the mega projects developed during his administration include the Penang Bridge, Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), Putrajaya Administrative Centre and Sepang International Circuit.
Vision 2020 was his brainchild, a national vision to achieve developed nation status by the year 2020.
In 1997, Asiaweek magazine named Mahathir among the 50 most powerful individuals in Asia.
In 2018, after his political coalition won the 14th General Election (GE14), Dr Mahathir was once again appointed as the seventh Prime Minister.
Although he has now retired from the political arena, the statesman remains active in offering views and criticisms, whether through writings or talk shows.
Earlier this year, he was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) due to a fractured right hip after falling at his residence in The Mines, Seri Kembangan.
He is now undergoing recovery, and most recently, the father of Malaysia’s modernisation took the time to engage with the people in Langkawi.
